ROLE IN THE PROJECT
POLITO coordinates the NOVAPACK project and is involved in different activities as summarized in the following. More specifically, POLITO will assist in selecting and characterizing the bio-based and biodegradable polymers and identifying and optimizing the processing protocols for agrifood wastes and by-products (M1). Then POLITO will help to characterize the physicochemical and thermal properties of the obtained extracts (M2), and to design, prepare, and characterize the antimicrobial and antioxidant films (M3), strictly collaborating with UNIPR and UNIBO as regards both bulk and surface approaches. POLITO will also contribute to assessing both biodegradability (in strict collaboration with UNIBO, through physicochemical characterization and morphological analyses) and antioxidant properties of the obtained films (M4) and to designing the industrial LbL plant (M5, strongly interacting with UNIPR). Finally, POLITO will manage the website and the reporting activities, as well as participate in the dissemination activities envisaged during the project (M6).
Founded in 1859, Politecnico di Torino (POLITO) is a leading institution in Italy and in Europe in the field of technical-scientific research (www.polito.it), with a yearly budget of about €300 million and over 35,000 students enrolled in academic courses of different levels, Bachelor, Master of Science, PhD, Specializing Master Courses of I and II Levels (15% of them are international students). POLITO is a center of excellence for education and research in engineering, architecture, design, and planning, where education and research complement each other and create synergies to address the needs of the economic system, of the local community, and, above all, of its students
